Latino Art Beat announced its 11th consecutive Hispanic Heritage art competition for 11th- and 12th-graders at the recent opening day reception of the Latino Art Beat retrospective art exhibit hosted by the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C.

HarperEntertainment, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, announced the acquisition of an autobiography by boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya. To be called AMERICAN SON, De La Hoya's book will chronicle his rise as one of the most-talked about fighters in the history of boxing, a frank and touching memoir about his pursuit and achievement of the American Dream.

Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) announced that Alfredo Galván, the host of AMOR 93.1 FM’s “Amor Temprano en la Mañana,” will be moving production of the award winning “Zanahorias” to Puerto Rico, Galván’s home.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the Latino International Theatre Festival of New York, Inc. announced the launch of TeatroStageFest, a two week theater festival showcasing the sights and sounds of award-winning theatre companies, performers, playwrights and directors from New York City, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain. The festival, which will run from April 30 through May 13, 2007, is expected to draw more than 5,000 theater-goers at seven venues in the emerging Fourth Arts Block of the East Fourth Street Cultural District and surrounding areas creating New York's own Calle Cuatro.

In January, the University of Massachusetts Press published "Puerto Rican Poetry: An Anthology from Aboriginal to Contemporary Times," edited and translated by Roberto Marquez, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Latin American and
Caribbean Studies at Mount Holyoke College.

Beginning October 8th, Worcester Art Museum provides to its visitors with a wide-ranging overview of the three most important artists of Puerto Rico José Campeche y Jordán (1715-1809), Francisco Oller y Cestero (1833-1917) and Miguel Pou y Becerra (1880-1968). The exhibition titled Mi Puerto Rico: Master Painters of the Island, 1780-1952 was curated by Marimar Benitez, Director, School of Fine Arts, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Cheryl Hartup, Chief Curator of Museo de Arte de Ponce and comprises 47 works of art from public and private collections, of which 16 are form MAP.
