Telemundo delivered the #1 talk show in many of the largest markets in the nation during the latest February 2001 (1/29-2/25/01) sweeps period.
Telemundo's "Laura en America" (M-F 4PM-5PM EST) has become the highest rated program in the time period, English or Spanish, from coast to coast. "Laura" was also the highest rated show in the time slot among the desirable adults 18-34 demographic in five of six Telemundo owned and operated stations in major U.S. markets.
In Los Angeles, "Laura" was not only the clear winner of the time period, but out-delivered every other talk show in the market. In New York, the largest market in the country, "Laura" closely followed the ratings delivery of WNBC's "Judge Judy" (1.7 and 1.9 Adult 18-34 rating, respectively). "Laura" also made a clean sweep in Miami, defeating second runner-up WPLG's "Maury Povich," by a 12% audience lead among adults 18-34. "Laura's" success was evident in Chicago, where the show is not only #1, but the only show during the time period to attain a rating of 3 or above among adults 18-34, and above a 2 rating among adults 18-49. The same success extended to San Francisco, where "Laura's" adult 18-34 delivery was 43% higher than runner-up KGO's "Oprah Winfrey."
"What distinguishes the growing popularity of Laura en America from other talk shows is the credibility of its host Laura Bozzo, and her deep sense of compassion which affects the daily lives of Hispanic TV viewers throughout the U.S.," said James McNamara, President and CEO of Telemundo. "The driving power behind her ratings increases underscores our belief that what viewers desire most is original and compelling programming."
